SPARTANBURG — More apartments are coming to the city’s Eastside.

A $22.4 million townhome apartment development is planned near the intersection of Drayton Road and Skylyn Drive.

It will include about 110 townhome units, according to the development agreement, but at least 88 market-rate units and 12 workforce housing units, which are restricted to tenants at or below 80 percent of the area median income.

City Council members unanimously agreed to move the project forward at a meeting on May 27. Developer John Montgomery is heading the private development under the company Drayton Townhomes LLC.

Montgomery told The Post and Courier that he hopes to break ground on the project by the end of 2025 and expects construction to last around 18 months, meaning it would open around the middle of 2027.
